What a family session sends home.

Family sessions work best when nobody is performing. We plan the groupings in advance, keep the shoot short enough that the youngest person is still enjoying it, and let the rest happen.

  • A curated gallery of 45 to 80 edited images, delivered as full-resolution JPEG with no watermark.
  • Every planned grouping covered: whole family, each parent with each child, siblings alone and individual portraits.
  • Ten to fifteen candid frames of movement, walking, laughing or the dog misbehaving, which are usually the keepers.
  • Colour and warm black-and-white versions of the twelve strongest frames, delivered as separate files.
  • A print-release PDF you can hand to any lab, with recommended crops for 5 by 7, 8 by 10 and 16 by 20 inch sizes.
  • One holiday-card layout at 5 by 7 inches, supplied as a press-ready PDF plus a flattened JPEG.

Sixty to ninety unhurried minutes.

  1. One hour before sunset
    Call time

Outdoor sessions start ninety minutes before sundown so we finish in the warmest light. Studio sessions run any time and ignore the weather entirely.

  2. First 10 minutes
    Settling in

Kids explore, we shoot nothing serious, and the adults stop checking their posture. This is not wasted time — it is why the later frames look easy.

  3. Minutes 10–55
    Groupings

We work from the full group outward while attention holds, then break into pairs and singles as the youngest ones start to fade.

  4. Final 15 minutes
    Wrap

Last frames are the loose ones — walking, piggybacks, the dog. We confirm the address for the gallery link before anyone leaves.

  5. Day 8–10
    Delivery window

A ten-frame preview goes out within three days, and the full edited gallery arrives in Pixieset inside ten business days.

Dressing everyone without a fight.

Feed the kids beforehand and schedule around the nap, not around your calendar. A session that starts with a rested three-year-old delivers twice as many usable frames as one squeezed in after a long afternoon.

  • A snack and a change of clothes for anyone under six, plus wipes for the inevitable.
  • Outfits in two or three shared tones rather than matching outfits — texture reads better than uniformity.
  • A favourite toy or blanket for a toddler, which we keep out of frame but use to get attention.
  • Hair ties on wrists rather than in the frame, and shoes everyone can walk in on sand or grass.
  • A written list of the groupings that matter most, especially for grandparents travelling in.
  • Leashes, treats and a person who can hold the dog when it is not being photographed.

Three family sessions, as they ran.

Family of four, coastal

Ninety minutes at golden hour: 68 edited frames covering nine planned groupings, twelve black-and-white conversions and one card layout delivered in nine days.

Three generations

Eleven people including two toddlers and a dog, seventy-five minutes in studio: 74 finals across fourteen groupings, plus individual portraits of both grandparents.

Newborn at home

Sixty minutes in the family's own living room: 52 finals, eighteen close details of hands and feet, and six frames with older siblings at the crib.

Family delivery and print rights.

Family galleries deliver in eight to ten business days, and a ten-frame preview always goes out within three days so there is something to share while you wait. Sessions booked in November for holiday cards are scheduled against the card printer's deadline, and we work backwards from that date rather than the shoot date. Album design and framed prints are ordered after delivery and add two to three weeks depending on the lab.

The gallery is yours to keep, print, share and reproduce for personal use with no expiry and no per-print fee, and the print release covers any lab you choose. Commercial use — a family business advertisement, for instance — is a separate conversation and is not covered by the personal release. We never publish a session that includes minors without written permission from a parent, and choosing to keep your gallery entirely private changes nothing about what you receive.
